MedMate privacy policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
MedMate reminds you to take your medicines and drink water, and lets family members you choose keep an eye on your doses. This page explains what the app collects, why, and how to delete it. Questions: hello@interestship.com.
Without an account
You can use MedMate without signing in. Your medicines, reminders, dose history, water log and settings then stay only on your phone. We never receive them.
With an account (sign-in by mobile number)
When you sign in, we store the following in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication):
- Your mobile number, which is your login.
- Your name as you typed it in the app.
- Your medicines: name, strength, form, schedule and reminder times, and any note you add.
- Your dose history: which doses were taken, skipped or missed, and when.
- Your city and its approximate coordinates, only if you enter a city for the water goal. The app never asks for your device location.
- A push-notification token, so family reminders and missed-dose alerts can reach your phone.
Your water log and app settings are not uploaded; they stay on your phone.
To send the sign-in code, your mobile number is passed to MSG91, our SMS provider.
Family sharing
Only if you share your invite code with someone, or enter theirs, a family link is created. A person you link as family can see your name, mobile number, how many of today's doses you have taken, your 7-day adherence and the name of an overdue medicine. They can add or change your medicines, and get an alert if a dose is missed. They cannot see your dose history. Either of you can remove the link at any time in the app.
Medicine scanning (AI)
If you choose to scan a medicine pack or prescription, the photo is sent through our server to Google Gemini to read the label. We do not store the photo. Google processes it under its own terms, and on the service tier we use, Google may use it to improve its products. Do not scan anything you would not want shared with Google. You can always type medicines in instead. AI results are suggestions you confirm; always follow your doctor's prescription.
Weather
If you enter a city, its name and coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch the temperature for your water goal. No account or identifier is sent with it.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics records technical details: device model, Android version, app version, the error, and your account ID if you are signed in. Crash reports never include your medicines, doses or name.
What we don't do
- No ads, and no advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell or rent your data, or share it with anyone except the providers named above, who process it to run the app.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account data until you delete your account. To delete it: in the app go to Settings → Delete my account. This immediately removes your account, profile, medicines, dose history, family links and family summary. You can also ask us by email. See how to delete your account. Crash reports expire automatically after 90 days. A one-way, non-reversible fingerprint of your mobile number is kept only to prevent abuse of invite rewards.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Database rules allow only you, and family you have linked, to read your data.
Children
MedMate is meant for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Medical disclaimer
MedMate is a reminder tool, not medical advice. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
